Breaking Dawn Movie a Go?

bdcover

Has the fourth novel in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga ‘Breaking Dawn’ been green lit for filiming?  Well if you listen to Eonline.com’s ‘Awful Truth’ you may think so.

According to the popular online gossip site:

But Breaking Dawn isn’t exactly as far away as you all would think.

“We’re going to start right after Eclipse,” says Ash.

But to be to quick to belive this.  Yes, we all know the Summit Entertainment is working on getting all the Twilight movies made as quickly as possiable, and that Robert Pattinson told reporters during Cannes that ‘Breaking Dawn’ would happen he just wasn’t sure of the timing.  The last I heard from script writer Melissa Rosenburg was Summit asked to start re-reading the book to start the process of writing the script.

No official word has come from Summit on this, and trust me I would be there to report on it the second that press release is made!!

Breaking Dawn One Step Closer to Being Green Lit!!!

It looks like Breaking Dawn is taking baby steps into production.  According to IMDB Pro, the status of BD has changed from “optioned property” to “script”.

This looks to go along with what Melissa Rosenberg wrote on her Facebook page, that Summit asked to start reading the book again to start figuring out the script.

If all this is true, we could be looking at a spring 2010 production date!!!!

Update: One thing I should mention is that Summit has not yet confirmed this, so don’t count it as 100% fact just yet!!

New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn News!!

EW.com has lots of Twilight Saga news for us this morning.  They spoke with Melissa Rosenberg (script writter for Twiligh, New Moon and Eclipse), had she the following to say regarding how much of Edward we will see in New Moon:

“In the book, he’s actually an enormous presence in [Bella’s] mind,” Rosenberg said. “He’s so present in her mind throughout the entire center of the book, so we really played off that, and it kept him alive in a slightly different way, but fans will feel it’s true to the book.”

Moving on to some Eclipse news, Melissa also said when it comes to casting “Riley”, she knows who would be great for the job, Channin Tatum.

“There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well,”

She goes on to say “And there are some complexities to that character,He really is tragic. He’s a puppet for Victoria [bad-girl vampire played by Rachelle Lefevre]. So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realizes that she doesn’t want him. Channing could do that beautifully.”

Channing can currently be seen in “Fighting” which was released this past weekend.

Melissa also talked briefly about the issue of making Breaking Dawn PG-13

“Our fans are in the PG age range, and I don’t feel a big necessity to see violence, and to see gore,” Rosenberg said. “I don’t need to see that. This whole series is more about their relationship. It’s not about the gore. I mean, there are some scary and special elements to it, but the series is really about relationships and coming of age and owning one’s power.”

Melissa hasn’t be asked to write the script for Breaking Dawn yet, but in a recent interview she was asked to start re-reading it.

Twilight Saga’s Breaking Dawn: To Graphic for a PG-13 Rating????

bdcover

Okay, so I’ve read on several blogs/websites about the debate on if “Breaking Dawn” the forth book in “The Twilight Saga” can be made into a movie keeping a PG-13 rating.

People are doubtful because of 1) the “graphic” birth scene  and 2) the sex scene’s with Bella and Edward.  Many are saying that both will have to be toned down in order to stay within the MPAA PG-13 rating.

Well, here are my thoughts on this subject.  First of all, I really didn’t find the birth scene all the graphic, there is some blood shed, bones are broken, etc.  You can see worse if not the same amount of damage on some TV shows (national and cable), I mean I’ve seen some pretty disturbing things on CSI, Fringe, and ER.   The same goes with the “sex” scenes, for crying out loud, Grey’s Anatomy has some pretty sexual scenes that are way more provocative then what Stephenie Meyer wrote.  Most of the sex scenes kinda have fade to black momments, there is one exception later on, but still they can take a lead from the daytime soaps.

Further more, I have seen plenty of PG-13 movies that have plenty of sex, violence , and even nudity.  Now I’m not saying there needs to be any nudity in any of the Twilight movies, I am merely making a point.  To name a few movies, “Titanic” had a nude scene with Kate Winslet, not only did that movie go own to make $600 million dollars, have a huge Tween-Teenage girl fan base, but was also rated PG-13.  As far as violence or graphic nature is concerned, this summers major block-buster “The Dark Knight” had a ton of graphic scenes, some that are far worse then Bella’s birth scene by a land slide, the one that really sticks in my head is the “Magic Trick” scene or even the jail scene with the guy who had cell phone bomb in his body.

All that being said, in my opinion the hardest part of filming ”Breaking Dawn” would be Renesmee.  I know Stephenie has said something along the same lines, that between her growth rate and her facial feature, it would be hard to find a real-life baby that good to the job.  CGI would only be an option if they can actually make a realistic looking human, which so far, I’ve yet to see one that would be good enough.

There you have it, my thoughts on this whole debate!!!
